As your local candidate for Galway County Council, I am dedicated fostering community unity, effective representation, sustainable development and advancing initiatives which address the unique needs of our residents. Together, let’s build a brighter future where our shared aspirations shape positive progress for our community.
My mission is to progress transformative projects through my role in Galway County Council, driving them forward to completion to improve quality of life for all who live work and visit my Local Electoral Area of Ballinasloe East Galway Area and for the benefit of all residents of the wider county and area.
Keeping a focus on developing Ballinasloe Municipal District and East Galway
Evelyn Parsons was co-opted onto the Galway County Council in July 2020 immediately flinging herself into the role representing the Ballinasloe Municipal District, engaging energetically in drafting the County Development Plan and Ballinasloe Local Area Plan with a deep commitment to drive positive change, to represent her constituents effectively, to empower her community, and to address issues with fairness and inclusivity while bringing a focus to an imbalance in development in her area in terms of housing, emergency housing, Portiuncula Hospital, lack of a Family Resource Centreyouth and public park facilities, water recreational facilities, lack of development of natural assets like Suck River, peatlands, waste issues and environmental justice, tourism and absence of public toilets for people living with disabilities and accessibility issues.
Recognition of the importance of Portiuncula University Hospital
Portiuncula University Hospital provides healthcare to a catchment of over 400,000 population and a very important local employer - approximately 1000 staff. Evelyn ensured that it’s crucial importance within the County was recognised in the Galway County Development plan for the first time ever.
Through her role on the Regional Health Forum West, she has kept Portiuncula Hospital’s progress needs and modern development to the forefront and put political pressure on HSE, Saolta and government to support necessary building and equipment upgrades, staffing and expansion to copper fasten its future.
When threatened with loss of GP out of hours services, she acted as a delegate to successfully broker agreement with Minister of Health for almost half a million euro funding to keep the East Galway GP On call Rota for the Ballinasloe and East Galway area up and running to ensure patients could be attended to by Doctors on a 24 hour basis.
